Understanding LA Monitoring Visits for SATs and Phonics and expectations for KS2 writing moderation.

Wednesday 4 March 2026, Time: 13:15 - 14:45

Join this free online session designed to provide a clear and comprehensive overview of what schools can expect during a Local Authority (LA) monitoring visit for either the year 1 Phonics Check and/or Key Stage 2 SATs.

Participants will gain an understanding of the purpose of monitoring visits, the statutory requirements schools must meet and the processes LAs use to ensure the validity, reliability, and security of national assessments.

Through practical guidance and examples, the session will:

  • outline the documentation, procedures, and evidence typically reviewed during a visit
  • roles and responsibilities of staff involved
  • highlight common areas of focus and good practice recommendations.

Additionally, the session will also outline what to expect if selected for KS2 writing moderation and key steps to take in preparation across the spring and summer term.

Book your space by completing the Understanding LA Monitoring Visits for SATs and Phonics and KS2 writing moderation booking form

Looking forward to seeing you.

Bookings now open for Standardisation for Year 6 Teachers – Writing Mop-up 25-26 – 22 April 2026

by Hannah Richardson -

This session is intended to support Year 6 teachers in carrying out their statutory obligation to assess children at the end of Key Stage 2 (KS2) against the Teacher Assessment Framework in writing.

As part of this session, teachers will receive the latest updates from the STA regarding writing moderation.

The feedback for teachers from these sessions is intended to:

  • help them evaluate their evidence base for writing against the ‘pupil can’ statements in the Teacher Assessment Framework for KS2 writing
  • identify any additional evidence required prior to making their end of key stage teacher assessment judgements
  • support them in understanding the statutory responsibilities in relation to KS2 SATs
  • support them in identifying which children are on track to achieve the expected standard, which are not and implications for the curriculum.

Book now for our new course! Making the Most of the IDSR - A Practical Guide for School Improvement (Webinar)

by Hannah Richardson -

This session offers a clear and practical exploration of the Inspection Data Summary Report (IDSR) – what it is, how it works, and how it can be used effectively to support school improvement. We will look at recent changes and updates and explore how to interpret significant vs non-significant data to inform meaningful conversations about performance. Throughout the session, we will consider how the IDSR might be viewed by Ofsted during inspections – not as the central focus, but as a lens for identifying potential areas for investigation and strengthening self-evaluation.
