Join us in Securing Strong Foundations in Key Stage 1 - 26-27 - 13 November 2026, 15 March 2027 (Part 1) and 18 May 2027 (Part 2)

by Hannah Richardson -

This course will support teachers in identifying the foundational knowledge in both English and maths. It will provide a model of progression for the six-term journey across KS1 and demonstrate how this leads to mastery of the National Curriculum in English and maths at the end of Y2.

English:

·       Teachers understand the key building blocks to reading and writing in Key Stage 1.

·       Teachers develop a secure progression of these to inform teaching.

·       Teachers will revise existing long-term plans to reflect this progression.

·       Teachers will develop their understanding of how to use formative assessment effectively to shape teaching and learning so that planning is adapted to support progress for all.

Maths:

·       Teachers understand the progression of skills across Key Stage 1.

·       Teachers understand the number facts that need to be secured and be provided with strategies on how to teach number facts.

·       Teachers understand how to develop and teach all three aims of the National Curriculum.

·       Teachers will understand how to develop questioning and task design with a focus on ensuring good progress is made.

·       Teachers will be supported to adapt planning informed by assessment.
