This course will support teachers in identifying the foundational knowledge in both English and maths. It will provide a model of progression for the six-term journey across KS1 and demonstrate how this leads to mastery of the National Curriculum in English and maths at the end of Year 2.

In response to the Year 6 project delivered across Hampshire in 2024/2025, this course is designed to develop Year 5 teachers’ understanding of Year 6 expectations. It will demonstrate how their curriculum can be sequenced to ensure key foundation skills are secure and how assessment can be used to identify gaps in learning and effectively address these.

This course will cover:
- recapping the learning from the previous course and considering how the provision is going to be adapted for the current Year 6 – what did we learn last time and what did you change? What has been the impact of this?
- analysing where you are as a school. What are your strengths? Opportunities? Weaknesses? Threats?
- ensuring you have effective practice of the key areas of English and mathematics
- looking at case studies from other schools which share their effective approaches to raising standards across the whole school.

Book now for Using Question Level Analysis (QLA) to Drive Strategic School Improvement 25-26 – 7 October 2025
This course will support senior leaders alongside maths and English leads to gain additional insight into pupil performance through focusing on question level analysis of the KS2 SATs. Leaders will be able to review and address areas of need in order to refine strategic plans and ensure that all children make good progress throughout the year in English and mathematics.

Raising Attainment in Year 6
This course will include schools working together to identify, track and target the needs of children in Year 6 for one main aim: supporting Year 6 to improve outcomes at the end of Key Stage 2. The sessions will draw on input from assessment, maths and English teams and provide the opportunity for Year 6 teachers and headteachers to attend sessions jointly to maximise progress across Year 6. As a result, teachers will be confident when planning for success in Year 6, whilst senior leaders will benefit from designated time to work alongside Year 6 colleagues to discuss current outcomes and next steps.
North – all sessions 9:00-12:00

Assessment Across the Wider Curriculum 25-26 (Blended)
This training aims to give leaders the opportunity to discuss principles of effective assessment and how these can be used practically to support assessment and its impact for foundation subjects.
The face-to-face sessions will each be followed up with a twilight session for all staff who lead a subject so the principles can be put into practice. A final session will enable schools to share the impact of the developments.
